Mary "Alice" Christian, 77, of Piqua died at 3:19 a.m. Oct. 4, 2009, at her daughters residence from lung cancer.

She was born in Pelham, Ga. on July 2, 1932 to the late John and Carrie (Johnson) Tyler. On Aug. 2, 1969 she married Charles E. Christian in Sidney and he preceded her in death on March 30, 2004.

Alice is survived by three sons and four daughters, Charlie R. Christian and Mitchell Gross of Columbus, Robert A. and Maxine Christian of Wapakoneta, James A. Christian of Wapakoneta, Jan Maloy of Piqua, Deborah and Allen Cantwil of Piqua, Georgia and Larry Smith of Florida and Wilma Armer of Wapakoneta; one brother, Charles Tyler of Warner Robbins, Ga.; two sisters, Helen Windham of Piqua and Evelyn Schwartz of Ft. Loramie; 24 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two granddaughters.

Alice worked for Copeland Corporation in Sidney for 21 years. In her early years she was a cosmetologist in Georgia.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua with Rev. Jay Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua. Calling hours will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County P.O. Box 502 Troy, Ohio 45373.
