| Birth: | Mar. 15, 1869 | | Death: | Mar. 19, 1952 |  New Hampshire Governor.Born in Sunapee, he served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 1918 and was elected Governor on the Republican ticket, serving from 1919 to 1921. After leaving the Governor's office, he became president of the United States Civil Service Commission and was then appointed as the first United States Assistant Postmaster General. Upon his retirement from federal government service, he switched to the Democratic Party and ran unsucessfully for the US Congress. He retired to Portsmouth and wrote several books before his death.
