This memorial separates the following Stephen Tracy of Windham, CT from the descendants of Lieut. Thomas Tracy of early Wethersfield, then Saybrook and last of Norwich, Conn. There was no family connection between Thomas and Stephen.

Stephen Tracy, s. of Lieut. John Tracy and Mary Prence, b. on or AFTER Dec. 20, 1673 prob. at Duxbury, Mass. He d. testate at Windham, Conn. Dec. 19, 1769, Æ 96 (g.s.) His paternal grandparents were Stephen Tracy (1623 Little Ann) and Triphosa Lee (1625 Jacob with dau. Sarah) of the Plymouth Colony, who m. at Leiden, Holland Jan. 2, 1620/1 (old English calendar). His maternal grandparents were Gov. Thomas Prence (1621 Fortune) and his 2nd wife Mary Collier of the Plymouth Colony.

Stephen wrote his will at Windham, Conn. on June 7, 1755, which was proved January 2, 1770. It names sons Prince, John, James and Thomas, and daughter Deborah, wife of Increase Moseley. Son Prince was named sole executor.

On Jan. 26, 1707/8 at Windham, Conn., Stephen m. Deborah Bingham, dau. of Dea. Thomas Bingham and Mary Rudd. She was b. at Norwich, Conn. Dec. 18, 1683 and d. at Windham Dec. 6, 1735, Æ 52 (g.s.) They had the following children of record at Windham:

• i. Mary Tracy, b. Aug. 26, 1708; no further record; not included in her father's June 1755 will.

• ii. Prince Tracy (misnamed as "Orrin" in the Windham VRs), b. Jan. 27, 1710/11; was executor of his father's will and was living at Windham in Sept. 1773 when appointed guardian of two minor Holbrook children; he as Prince Tracy m. May 29, 1766 at Lebanon, Conn. the apparent widow Elizabeth Holbrook by whom he had three children recorded at Windham: Prince, Lucy and Elizabeth. However, the marriage is erroneously recorded in the Windham VRs as between Phinehas Tracy and Elizabeth Holbrook with Phinehas then stated as the father of the aforementioned three children. Prince Tracy repeatedly appears in the Windham Special probate records as Prince Tracy and never as Phinehas Tracy.

• iii. Deborah Tracy, b. Jan. 8, 1713/4; m. May 7, 1735 at Windham, Increase Moseley, Jr. of Norwich, CT (rec. in Norwich VRs). She d. Sept. 6, 1777 at Woodbury, Conn. Eight children of the marriage.

• iv. John Tracy, b. Apr 25, 1718; was living in March 1770 when included in the distribution of his father's estate, but no further specific record uncovered.

• v. Lieut. James Tracy, b. June 15, 1720, d. Sept. 21, 1756 at Fort Edward, NY in the French & Indian War; m. May 26, 1748 at Windham, Susanna Bishop, who d. at Windham Nov. 24, 1750. Two children of record at Windham (sons Stephen and Nathaniel), who as heirs of their father shared in the March 1770 distribution of grandfather Stephen Tracy's estate.

• vi. Nathaniel Tracy, b. June 21, 1722, d. unmarried at Windham Oct. 11, 1750.

• vii. Lieut. Thomas Tracy, b. Aug. 19, 1725, d. Jan. 28, 1821 at Hartford, VT (g.s.) ; m. Oct. 28, 1751 at Windham, Conn., Elizabeth Warner, dau. of Lieut. Joseph Warner and Elizabeth Allen, b. Nov. 9, 1728 at Windham. She d. Mar. 25, 1801 at Hartford, VT (g.s.). Eight children of record at Windham, Conn. before becoming one of the earliest pre-Rev. War proprietors of Hartford, VT.

According to the original gravestone read by Joel N. Eno prior to 1917 and augmented by the actual gravestone:

On the day Stephen died he was 95 years old, and Ætatis suæ (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of his Age) 96. Despite the date 1673 inscribed on his secondary gravestone, his full inscription infers he was born on or AFTER Dec. 20, 1673.
