Funeral services for Mrs. D. E. Brush of Ferguson, who died Thursday at St. Thomas Mercy hospital here, will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Christian Church at Ferguson in charge of Rev. H.A. Crawford of Maquoketa, a former pastor of the church and a nephew of Mrs. Brush. The body will remain at the Estel funeral home here until noon Saturday. Burial will be in the Timber Creek cemetery. Mrs. Brush had been ill for two weeks and was a patient at the hospital the last 12 days. Death was due to obstruction of the bowels.

Mrs. Brush was born Martha Rosetta Speas, February 27, 1870, near Ferguson, daughter of Nathaniel and Mary Hilsabeck Speas, pioneer residents of the Ferguson community. She had been a resident of Marshall county practically all her life. She was married to Datus E. Brush, December 19, 1888, in the home community. Besides Mr. Brush she is survived by three sons and a daughter, Lemert Brush of Lynnville, Leonard of Kirksville, Mo., Mrs. Mary Heitink of Grinnell and Gerald of Ferguson; five brothers and three sisters, John Speas of Montezuma, William of LeGrand, Charles of Grinnell, James of Liscomb, Oliver Speas and Mrs. Ella Hoopengardner of Ferguson, Mrs. Laura Miller of Kellogg and Mrs. Mary Powers of Salem, Ore. Another sister, Mrs. Anna Adkins died 20 years ago. Mrs. Brush was a member of the Christian Church at Ferguson for many years. -Times Republican, September 10, 1943
