Conner was elected Angelina County Commissioner of Precinct # 3 (Huntington) on November 6, 1926. He served in this position for 2 years until 1930. He also served as a postmaster at Ora, Angelina County, Texas from February 12, 1904 to June 5, 1907. William was a mechanic and a gunsmith later in his life at Huntington and at Lufkin, Texas. In the early 1960's his gun shop was in downtown Lufkin which he later moved to his home on East Lufkin Avenue. "Papa Conner", as he was called by his grandchildren, was about 6 feet tall with dark hair and he had a long grey beard later in his life. According to relatives, Papa Conner wrote a book called "Guns and Things" which this author has not been able to verify. Family links: Spouse: Joanna L.
