Born in Rully, France, he came to America in 1889 and to Miami, Florida in 1896. He engaged in farming in what was then called Buena Vista. He also conducted a comission business along the East Coast, and founded the Miami Comission Company. He married Fernande Courly in 1897 and had 3 sons, Pierre, Emile and Leon Jr. and a daughter Aline.

He was an ardent lover of all sports, and was one of the founders of the East Coast Baseball League before WWI.

When war ignited in Europe in 1914, Leon volunteered his services to his native land of France and left Miami on August 14, 1914. He saw active service in both the battles of Marne and at Soissons, was wounded three times and gassed once. He received the French Legion of Honor, Crox du Guerre with two palms and the Medaille Militaire.

Leon moved to Akron in 1920 and was employed by the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company from where he retired. He married his widow Martha and had a daughter Jacqueline in Akron.
