Prince Charchenko, 71, of Crookston died Friday, July 6, at his home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Presbyterian Church in Crookston.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stenshoel Funeral Home of Crookston and one hour before the services at the church.

Prince Charchenko was born March 16, 1919, in Eugene Oregon, the son of John and Kathryn Charchenko. He grew up in Kildeer, North Dakota, and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Lucille Beving Wheeler on February 17, 1949 in Crookston.

He worked for several trucking firms, including Minnesota-Wisconsin Trucking and GMW Freightways, retiring in 1982.

Lucille Charchenko died in 1979.

Survivors include a son, William Wheeler, of Union Lake Michigan, two daughters, JoAnne (Mrs. Michael) Evans of Whitefish, Montana, and Janice Charchenko of Crookston; and eight grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, William of Westminster, California, Sam of Watford City, North Dakota, and Joe of Hibbing; and two sisters, Rose Hold of Brooklyn Center and Mary Grondahl of Topeka, Kansas.
