Beecher "Pop" Russell, 100, of Harriman, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, in Renaissance Terrace Care and Rehabilitation Center, Harriman.

A 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Swan Pond Baptist Church, Childs Memorial Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church. He was retired from TVA after 23 years of service.

He was preceded in death by father, Charles Martin Russell; mother, Sarah Bowman Russell; his first wife and mother of his children, Hattie Beason Russell; sons, Morrison Kenneth Russell and Sidney Leslee Russell; daughter, Dixie Louise Pressley; stepdaughter, Louise; his second wife, Maxine Russell; brothers, Ben Russell, Jack Russell and Drew Russell; and sisters, Mary Farr, Maggie Farr and Sally Hunt.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Olford and Ruby Russell of Harriman, L.D. and Dorothy Russell of Sevierville and Greston Russell of Philadelphia; stepdaughters, Ruth Ann May and Betty Sue, both of Knoxville; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in Kyker Funeral Home chapel, Harriman, with the Rev. Ralph Nance and the Rev. Tommy Hensley officiating. Graveside service, with military honors, and burial were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Swan Pond Baptist Church Cemetery.
