Mrs. Ada Orton, lifetime resident of Pemiscot county, died at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis Thursday June 17. She had been in ill health for a number of years and had been taken to the hospital a few days before her death.
Born May 13, 1876, she was 72 years, l month and 8 days of age, and had lived in Caruthersville for a great many years. On August 12, 1891, she was married to John Orton and six children were born to this union, but one daughter Mrs. Frank Ell and her husband preceded her in death. She had been a member of the Chapel Methodist church for many years.
Survivors include four daughters, being Mrs. Hettie Burris of Tooele, Utah; Mrs. Lennie Watkins of Hayti; Mrs. Elmo Michie of Steele and Mrs. Otho Pierce of Hayti; one son, Byars Orton, of Portageville; one brother Tom Allen of Chaffee; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in this city at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with the Rev. Marvin Niblack of Steele conducting the last rites. Interment was in Little Prairie Cemetery, with LaForge service.
Pall bearers at the funeral included Elmo Michie, M.R. Rowland, Alvin McCullough, Otis Stanley, Walter Ell and Otho Pierce.
