Roosevelt Pierce was the youngest son of Jeremiah (Jerry Sr) Pierce and Sarah Kate Wilson Pierce. He was also known as "Rosie" and "Tobe". He was the brother of Jerry Pierce, Jr (buried in Lambert Cemetery, Citronelle) and the half brother of Georgianna Pierce Patrick (Sawyer Cemetery), Hillard Hubbard Pierce (Mt Pisgah Cemetery, Leakesville, MS.), William Pierce (Mt Pisgah, Leakesville) and Cornelia Pierce Lambert (WR Clark Memorial Cemetery, Jackson Co, MS).
Uncle Tobe never married and never had any children. He did have a "lady friend" named Zula in the 1950s, but I do not know her last name.
When I was a little girl, Uncle Tobe lived in a very small old house that only had two rooms and an outhouse at the Washington County AL line. He was not as old as my Grandpa but was sickly and could not get around too well. We were living at that time in Louisiana and when we would come to visit, he would always manage to have something for me, a peppermint stick or fruit or something.
It was really sad because he had to rely on people to take him to town to cash his Social Security check every month and sometimes a few days afterwards, people would come and rob him of all of his money while he was laying sick in his bed.
He served in the Army during World War II, though I do not have all of the details of his service.
He was a very special man and one of my favorite relatives. He is buried near his mother Sarah Kate. I am almost positive that she is to his right but her grave is unmarked.
