Rodolfo Campodonico
Birth: Dec. 8, 1864
Sonora, Mexico
Death: Jan. 7, 1926
Cochise County
Arizona, USA

Son of an Italian immigrant, who played several instruments, and was at one time himself quite popular. Rodolfo, began playing musical instruments at an early age, and around the age of 11 began composing music. He eventually became director of the state band of Sonora, Mexico. During the time of the Mexican Revolution he was imprisoned and faced execution, because he refused to stop playing certain pieces of his music deemed too political. His piece "Club Verde", of 1901, became a political statement, and also became known as the unofficial anthem of the State of Sonora. He escaped to the U.S., living out his remaining years in Tucson and Douglas, Arizona, teaching music. He composed at least 250 pieces of music, mostly waltzes. He was often called the Strauss of Mexico because of his many waltzes.
Some of his other works include: Blanca, Natalia, Margot, Lolita, Laura, Amalia, and Catalina
At present there is a dispute on the date of death, as the family states it was the 7th, his wife was still alive along with other family members, but the death certificate shows he died on the 8th.
