A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Stephen Pillsbury officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel other times at the home.
JW was born July 6, 1925 in Davidson County to Homer Leonard and Nealie Bates Leonard. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men. He was a watch maker and retired with Crown Drug. He served in the United States Army during WWII, was a member of American Legion Post 8, Welcome Civitans and volunteered with the Davidson County Special Olympics. Preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers, three sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years Elizabeth Boger Leonard of the home, sons; J. Rich Leonard and wife Whitney of Raleigh, Stan Leonard and wife Beth of Lexington, daughter; Janie Leonard Bryan and husband Stewart of Chapel Hill, grandchildren; Matthew Leonard and wife Stacey, Justin Leonard and wife JoAnn, Nathan Bryan and wife Mary, Scott Leonard and wife Tinne, Kevin Leonard, Louise Gray Leonard, Libba Leonard, Cain Leonard, eight great grandchildren, sisters; Naomi Algood of Winston Salem and Alta Merritt of Lexington.
