Civil War: Company A, 2nd California Cavalry

Jacob B. Breyfogle [Bryfogle] enlisted as a private at San Francisco, California, September 16, 1861, and was mustered into Company A, 2nd California Cavalry, at the Presidio of San Francisco on October 2. Private Breyfogle re-enlisted at Camp Douglas, Utah, October 4, 1864. Private Breyfogle was mustered out at Camp Union, California, April 7, 1866. After the war he worked as a machinist. Jacob was convicted of embezzlement and sitting in the Salinas jail in 1880 (1880 US Census). Jacob filed for a Civil War veteran's pension at Salinas August 10, 1891, and received application No. 1,048,711 and certificate No. 1,015,683. He re-filed for his veteran's pension at Salinas September 11, 1908. By 1910 he was still single and living at Salinas (1910 US Census).
