Ruth H. (Ritter) Baum, 98, of Hausman Road, Allentown, formerly of Fairview Street, Allentown, widow of Willard U. Baum, died Monday in Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born in Quakertown, she was a daughter of the late Reverend Norman Y. Ritter and the late Bessie (Romich) Ritter, growing up in Perkasie.

A Summa cum Laude graduate of Wilson College in 1929, she taught Latin in Lehighton High School before her marriage in 1933 to Willard U. Baum, who died in 1995, a former vice president of PPL. After a few years of part time teaching at the Wright School, she volunteered her talents in church, community and family. As president of Muhlenberg Elementary School P.T.A., she helped organize a number of P.T.A.s in this area. She served as treasurer on the Y.W.C.A. board for a number of years; she was treasurer, president of the Allentown branch of American Association of University Women, from 1954-56, followed by election to the state division of A.A.U.W. as treasurer, becoming a life member. In 1996, she was cited for service in the Lehigh Valley Society of Professional Engineers Auxiliary.

A member of Christ Lutheran Church, Allentown, she served on the council, where she was stewardship chairman in charge of several capital campaigns; taught confirmation classes and for decades was a teacher of adults in Sunday school and a life long member of the choir. In spare moments, she and her husband were extensive world travelers and brought back pictures to share with others.

Survivors: She is survived by a son, Dr. Dennis W., husband of Pamela Baum, of Danville, Calif.; daughter, Nancy, wife of Ted Rehmeyer, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sister, Esther James of Greenwood, S.C.; three granddaughters, five great-grandchildren.

Services: will be 11 a.m. on Saturday from Christ Lutheran Church, 1245 W. Hamilton Street, Allentown. Officiating will be the Reverend Samuel Zeiser and the Reverend Ted Schlack. Entombment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Allentown. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 10:30-11 a.m. in the church. Arrangements, Schumacher Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, Pottstown.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Christ Lutheran Church, 18102.
