Reverend James M. Curtis was born Monday, March 22, 1841 in Lawrence County, Alabama, to Joseph and Marina Curtis.

He was a farmer and a grocer, as well as a minister.

He married Roberta J. Lowery, a daughter of Robert Lowery and Matilda Russell Lowery on Monday, March 6, 1865 in Lawrence County, Alabama.

The children of the Reverend and Marina Curtis are Carrie M. Windham, Joseph S. Curtis, Walter G. Curtis, Lela Inez Murphy, Ella A. Wilkerson and Mattie Curtis.

James M. Curtis, age 63 years died November 23rd at his late residence, Curtis Wells, on Moulton Road. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. I. Stockton from the residence Tuesday. Interment was in the family burial ground.
