Carl Vrooman
Birth: Oct. 25, 1872
Death: Apr. 9, 1966

Presidential Cabinet Secretary. Born in Macon, Missouri, he was educated at Washburn College, Topeka, Kansas and Harvard University. He was appointed regent of the Kansas State Agricultural College serving (1898-1900). Active in political farming affairs, he was appointed Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914. During World War I while serving in this position, he promoted the "War Gardens" project which organized sending a million bushels of corn to the starving people in Europe. For his efforts, he received a decoration from the Polish government. He died at age 93 in Bloomington, Illinois. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
