Otto was a son of Ernst Heinrich ("Henry") Rurup and Amelia Augusta Bielefeld Rurup.
Sibling of Henry Frederick Louis, Alma, Amelia, Rose, Marie, Stella, Ida, Henry Frederick Christopher, Benjamin and Helen.
Otto married Dora Smith in 1909. He died of a heart attack in 1940.
They had five children: Delbert ("Bud"), Henry ("Scoop"), Jessie ("Mrs. Lloyd Grover"), Lester ("Buster") and Harry ("Babe") Rurup.
