Smeaton Chase was an early 1900's resident of Palm Springs, born in England, and an author & photographer. He wrote several books about the area. In 1913 he wrote "California Coastal Trails", a narrative of his horseback ride along the entire California coast, his most notable book. Also, "Our Araby: Palm Springs and the Garden of the Sun", a book still being sold today.
