Funeral Service Is Held For Mrs. J.C. Wike

TAYLORSVILLE, Feb. 7, - The funeral service for Mrs. Epsie Earp Wike, widow of the late J.C. Wike, of Taylorsville, who passed away Tuesday morning at 1:30 o'clock at Davis hospital, Statesville, where she had been a patient since Thursday, the 1st, was conducted from the First Baptist church here this morning at 11 o'clock by the pastor, Rev. C.C. Holland, assisted by Rev. E.V. Bumgarner, a former pastor.
Messrs. Garley Foster, J. M. Childers, R.B. Campbell, Plato Carson, Anderson Price and H.B. Burke served as pallbearers. The beautiful flowers were in charge of Mrs. A.J. Mays, a niece of the deceased, assisted by a number of friends of the family. Interment was in Fairview cemetery.
Mrs. Wike, a daughter of Mrs. Clementine Pearson Earp, of the Mt. Olive community, Alexander county, and the late William Wilson Earp, was born March 11, 1885, in Alexander county, and was nearing her 49th birthday anniversary. November 5, 1902, was the date of her marriage to Mr. J.C. Wike, of Alexander county, and they made their home in the Salem community where Mr. Wike was engaged in the mercantile business, for a few years before removing to Taylorsville. Mr. Wike was in the mercantile business and the lumber business here until his death five years ago.
Mrs. Wike was a loyal member of the First Baptist church and an active member of the Taylorsville Woman's club. She is survived by ten children, two sons and eight daughters, Mr. Weaver Wike, of Washington, D.C., Mrs. J.C. Cross, of San Antonio, Texas, both of whom arrived Sunday to be with their mother; Mrs. C.F. Leckie, Misses Cecil, Dixie, Louise, Christine, Hazel, and Ruth Wike and Max Wike, who live at home. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. A.C. Earp, of the Mt. Olive community; four brothers, Messrs. W.A. Earp, of Charlotte, who arrived here Tuesday, S.G. Earp, C.G. Earp and L.J. Earp, all of Taylorsville; one sister, Mrs. Gaston Jolly, of Little River township.
