Dorothy Wynell Thrift Sowell, 84, died Sunday evening at Satilla Care Center following an extended illness.
She was a native of Waycross, had lived most of her life in the Atlanta area, but had made her home in Hoboken for the past 18 years. She was the daughter of the late Marvin Hobson Thrift and Ida Estelle Smith Thrift. She was also preceded in death by a son Marvin Lewis Sowell.
Mrs. Sowell was a charter member of Rosebud Church of God of Prophecy in Waycross. She was the former office manager for Bill Wages Volkswagen-Mazda, and had formerly been employed with East Point Ford and the Elmer Dailey Dealership.
Survivors include a daughter, Angela Wynette Sowell Elliott of Hoboken, a son, Jerry Lynn Sowell (wife Kalena) of Wedowee, AL, two grandsons, William Cody Elliott and Jessy Colt Elliott, a sister, Lucille Filippone of Newnan, a niece, Deanne Joy of Newnan, a brother-in-law, Henry "Bunky" Sowell (wife Delores) of Waycross, two sister-in-laws, Kathleen Stokes and Bobbie Mealling both of Brunswick.
