Isaac was the son of Isaac Carter and Nellie Tetstom, born in Cartertown, now Bacon County, GA. Isaac spent most of his life in the rural community where he was born. He was a cattleman and lived on his ranch about a mile from his birthplace. When war broke out Issac enlisted October 10, 1861 as a private in Co. K, 2nd Regiment 1st Brigade,GA State Troops. He mustered out April 1862. April 21, 1862 he was appointed 4th Corporal of Company B, 54th GA Infantry Regiment, CSA commanded by Captain George W Moody. Confederate roll dated February 28, 1863,(only rolls on file)show him as present. In June of 1864 the 54th engaged Sherman's army at Kennesaw Mountain Georgia during the siege of Atlanta. The unit later surrendered in Tallahassee, FL. Surviving members were paroled May 1865 in Thomasville, GA. When the war was over Isaac returned home where he married Nancy Harrison and raised 11 children.
