Great Falls, S.C. — Mr. Clover Rhett "Buck" Abercrombie, 89, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Carroll Place in Lexington, S.C.
A resident of Great Falls, S.C., since 1965, Mr. Abercrombie formerly lived in Shelby. During his career in textile management, he worked at the Esther Mill in Shelby, J.P. Stevens No. 1 Plant in Great Falls and Springs Mill Lancaster Plant in Lancaster, S.C.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Abercrombie served in the Air Corps in Hawaii. He was a Mason and Emeritus member of the Oasis Temple of the Shrine in Charlotte for 50 years.
Mr. Abercrombie was the last surviving son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Abercrombie. He has joined his brothers, Fred, George, Ralph, Furman, Waymon, Harley and Palmer and his sister, Iris Stansell, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Shelia and Dr. Craig Sheppard of Tifton, Ga. and Sandy and Don Whaley of Lancaster; his son and daughter-in-law, Rhett and Nancy Abercrombie of Columbia, S.C.; and two grandsons, Trey Abercrombie and wife, Heather, of Charlotte and Shawn Abercrombie of Columbia. He also leaves behind his cherished little dog, Buddy.
Funeral: Graveside memorial service Saturday at 11 a.m. in Cleveland Memorial Park
