Raimon B. Yeider, age 93 of Bangor, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community, South Haven, after a brief stay in the hospital. Raimon was born November 8, 1915 in his grandparents home near Bangor, the son of Levi and Reta (Sternaman) Yeider. Except for his years in the military, Raimon lived his entire life within a quarter mile of his birth place on land originally homesteaded by his great grandparents. He loved his farmboy background and fondly recalled plowing with his grandfather's team of horses and going into Bangor with a horse and buggy when M-43 was a dirt road. He attended Johnstown Country School and graduated from Bangor High School in 1934. On December 24, 1942 while on military leave, he married the former Harriet Williams in South Haven. He loved our country and was proud to have served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during WW II. Raimon was a member of the Bangor American Legion and never missed a Memorial Day Parade or a Pearl Harbor Memorial Service. He and his wife owned and operated a small farm near Bangor. Every fall Raimon ran a cider mill along with his wife and parents and looked forward to seeing his many friends as they lined up to have their apples ground and pressed. Raimon also worked for Auto Specialties, Hartford retiring in 1977. He enjoyed fishing, reading and was a history buff. Surviving are his wife of nearly 67 years, Harriet; 2 daughters, Kathleen (William) Cochran of Bangor, Christeen Wheeler of Arkansas; 2 sons, John (Jodie) Yeider of Bangor, James (Bess) Yeider of Gobles; 8 grandchildren, Garry (Sheri) Hargrove, Jr., Shellien (Alan) Schwerdt, Amanda (Yeider) Rhodes, Katie Yeider, Courtney Koenig, Carrie Yeider, John Yeider, James Yeider; 5 great grandchildren, Nicole, Steven, and Zachary Hargrove, Olivia Schwerdt, Brianna Rhodes; 1 sister, Shirley King of South Haven; and 1 brother, Mervin (Peggy Ann Taylor) Yeider of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Millicent and Lloyd Roe; a grandson, Michael Yeider; and a great granddaughter, Tristian Hargrove. The family will meet friends on Saturday from Noon to 2:00 PM at the Bangor Chapel, D. L. Miller Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM with Pastor David L. Markel officiating. Interment will follow in Monks Cemetery, Geneva Township.
