James Omer Barnes, son of Christopher M. "Crit" and Ada Cockrum Barnes, was born April 21, 1925, near Nebo. He departed this life Wednesday, February 22, 1995, in Webco Manor in Marshfield at the age of 69 years, ten months and one day.

On January 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Kathleen R. Fulford and to this union two sons were born.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evelyn Cashion; and a brother, Morris Barnes.

Omer is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathleen of the home; two sons, Bruce Barnes, and his wife, Linda, of Blue Springs and Alan Barnes of Branson; twin gransons, Brian and Jared Barnes; a nephew, Charley Barnes, Jr.; a niece, Elaine Stewart; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.

He was born and raised on the family farm near Nebo and graduated from Lebanon High School. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy as a Seamen First Class from 1944 until 1946 and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II.

When he returned from the war, he came home to work with his father and his brother establishing the Barnes Dairy. Upon the death of his brother in 1986, he retired from dairy farming and began raising beef cattle, which he continued to do until 1993.

Omer became a Christian in 1947 and joined the Antioch Baptist Church. He later transferred his membership to Second Baptist Church where he faithfully attended for as long as his health permitted.

When he wasn't farming, he was fishing, and enjoyed being on the lake with his friends trying to catch his limit of crappie. Some of his happier times were spent with his twin grandson, Brian and Jared.

Omer was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered as a loving family man, patriotic citizen, and a respected father and businessman.
