Harley Edward Almond, 83, of Hannibal, passed this life at 12:35 P.M. Friday,
February 2, 2007 at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal. Two services will be
conducted. The first in Hannibal at the Church of Christ on Sunday, February 4,
2007 at 4:00 P.M., with visitation from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. The second service
will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 5, at the Schoene-Rushmeier Funeral Home
in Milan, MO., with visitation from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Nathan Almond
will officiate at both services. Burial will be at White Oak Cemetery north of
Browning, MO. The James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal is in charge of

Mr. Almond was born December 17, 1923, in Sullivan County to Ova Rufus and
Gertrude Louvena Hennen Almond.

He was married to Peggy Gertrude Head on December 4, 1946 . She survives.

Other survivors include: Four children: Vena Marie Long (Donald) of Knoxville,
TN., Dorothy Faye Sterrett of St. Charles, MO., Harry Don Almond (Paula) of
Bella Vista, AR., and Peggy Rae Summers (Gary) of Hannibal, Eight grandchildren:
Lewis Edward Long, USAF (Melissa) of Knob Noster, Michael Calhoun Long (Lisa) of
Auburn, IL., Amy Marie and Andrea Dawn Heinike both of St. Charles, Nathan
Edward Almond (Jennifer) of Van Buren, AR., Ryan Earl Almond also of Van Buren
AR., Stephanie Suzanne Moore and Jeremy Wayne Summers of Hannibal., Seven great
grandchildren: Cole Long; Cade, Kelton, Madeline & Kylan Almond; Garrett & Sam
Moore., and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Almond was preceded in death by his parents, his sister; Vivia Henley Wood,
brothers-in-law; Quentin Henley, & Dale Wood, his parents-in-law; Beryl & Marie
Head and two sisters-in-law; Nancy Knight & Shirley Head.

Mr. Almond began his education at Walnut Grove School in rural Missouri,
continuing at Knifong and then at White Oak, graduating from Browning High
School in 1941. He graduated from Chillicothe Business School in 1942, then
worked for Burlington Railroad before entering the Army Air Corps in 1945. He
graduated from Kirksville State Teachers College in 1960 and began his teaching
career. He taught one year at Humphreys, four years at Browning and fourteen
years at Hannibal.

Mr. Almond was a member of the Hannibal Church of Christ. He was an avid
genealogist, farmer, and antique collector. He enjoyed attending family reunions
and auctions.

Pallbearers will be Lewis Long, Michael Long, Ryan Almond, Jeremy Summers, Aaron
Henley, and Mark Giessinger.
