British actress: She was born Edna Hove. She was married to Nat Wolff from February 7, 1940 until his death in March 1959. She was married to Herbert Marshall from February 26, 1928 until their divorce on February 7, 1940 and they had a daughter, Sarah Marshall. She was divorced from Seymour Beard and had twin sons with him. She was the women's swim champion of Sussex. Initially a stage performer, she entered films in 1931, and is best remembered as the mother in the original version of Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1934). Among her other films were "Intermezzo" (1939), "Swiss Family Robinson" (1940) and "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" (1947). Having appeared on London television as early as 1938 (in an adaptation of an Agatha Christie story), she won an Emmy in 1957 for "This Happy Breed." She was married to actor Herbert Marshall from 1928 to 1940. She was the mother of another actress, Sarah Marshall.
