Mrs. Betty Jo Hallman Nichols, 72, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick following a short illness.

A native & life-long resident of Brantley County, she was a retired lunchroom worker for the Brantley County Board of Education. Mrs. Nichols had worked at Nahunta Elementary and Brantley County Middle schools. She was a member of the Hortense Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Nichols was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She was also very dedicated to her church and loved her church family.

Mrs. Nichols was a daughter of the late Homer Lee Hallman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon E. Nichols.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-n-law, Pamela & Joey Sannicolas of Waycross and Lisa & Tommy Pollard of Nahunta; three sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Eugene & Louise Nichols of Hortense and Ricky & Virginia Nichols and Stanley Vernon & Vicky Nichols all of Nahunta; her mother, Ruby Mae Pearson Teten of Hoboken; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen & Tommy Broughton of Waynesville; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Karen Hallman of Nahunta; 13 grandchildren, Jesse Lee Nichols, Felicia Johnson, Corey Roberts, Sabrina Guy, Ashley Perry, Matthew Rowell, Mandy Diane Morgan, Danielle Nichols, Jessica Nichols, Penelope Nichols, James Pollard, Holli Pollard and John Pollard; 27 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

Visitation for Mrs. Nichols will be held Friday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nichols will be held Saturday morning, September 19, 2009, at 11:00 o'clock from the Hortense Wesleyan Church.
Mrs. Nichols will lay in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Members of the Adult Sunday school class are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 10:30 Saturday morning.

Interment will be in the Hortense Cemetery.
