William Tom was the son of James Paul Orr and Jettie Cochran, and one of the
three Orr brothers on the Mount Vernon HS football team at the same time. His
brother Paul was a few years ahead of them. Tom did some of his growing up at
the Odd Fellows Home in Liberty,MO, because his father had died very young.
There, he and his brothers Miles and Harold had outdoor chores on the large farm
and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

After graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1933, Tom Orr moved to
Washington in the mid-1930s, and was in Florida when WWII broke out. He and
brother Miles were featured in a news articles in the "St. Petersburg Times,"
soon after they joined the Army. Tom was in one of the first landing parties to
hit the beach at Normandy and he directed traffic on the beach for many hours.
For his bravery, he received the SilverStar. It is amazing he survived.
Throughout his life he maintained links to his comrades and attended many
veteran reunions.

Tom married Glenna Mae Stovall of Texas, and was a vice president for a life
insurance firm in Kansas City. Tom was an avid golfer and bowler He and Glenna
had five children.
