Birth: 1761
Bristol County
Massachusetts, USA
Death: Nov. 27, 1843
Berkshire County
Massachusetts, USA

Died age 82 years. A Revolutionary War Veteran. Husband of Hannah Austin Turner; they were married by Baptist minister Rev. William Nelson of Norton, Massachusetts on 19 September 1782 in Norton (Bristol Co.) with Stimson Williams attending. They had at least three children: Elijah Jr. (b.c. 1795), Joanna (1799-1846), and Ebenezer Austen (1803-1870).

From his widow's pension application documents, confirmed by the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, Boston, 1845: "He enlisted from the Town of Easton in the County of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, in the year 1777 as a Private in the Company commanded by Captain J. Briggs in Col. Hathaway[']s Regiment and he served as follows, viz: -- Six months in 1777-– under Captain J. Briggs, Col. Hathaway; two months in 1777, under Captain Wilbury [or Wilbore] —three months in 1778 under Captain Mat[t]hew Randall, Col. Richardson: six months in 1778. under Captain Jacob Fuller, Col. Jacobs; six months in 1779, under Captain Joseph Franklin, Col. Putham; three months in 1780. under Captain Bradford, Col. Gennet. The first services were incidences on Rhode Island, and the latter in New Jersey and at West Point."

Elijah claimed his service began in 1776, but the military records kept in the 1800s when he and his widow applied for their pensions did not specify this.
