Jack Baker Dies at 54
John Richard Baker, 54, of Box 261, Juniata Gap, RD 4, died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 1979, in Mercy Hospital, after an extended illness. Mr. Baker, known as Jack, servied as supervisor of maintenance at the Altoona Campus of Pennsylvania State University, where he had been employed for 31 years. He was born June 4, 1925, in Altoona, the son of Ralph M. and Beulah M. (Emes) Baker, and in 1947, in Altoona, married L. Dolores Watters. Surviving are his wife, four children, Jason R., Mrs. Deborah Detrick, Mrs. Dianis Young and Mrs. Bonnie Kaup of Altoona; six grandchildren, his parents of Juniata Gap, and a sister, Mrs. Carmen Slep of Juniata Gap. Mr. Baker attended the Mardorf United Methodist Church, Juniata Gap. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, as a bugle master, having served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Bernard Good Post, VFW, Juniata, and the VFW Band, and for many years conducted the Jack Baker Orchestra. He was a member of the executive board of the local Musician's Union 564, and a member of Heidelberg Country Club. Mr. Baker was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School, where he played in the band and dance orchestra. He also attended the Altoona Campus. He managed the Mardorf United Methodist Church softball team for 19 years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday in the Edith Davis Eve Chapel at the Altoona Campus.

BAKER Services for John Richard Baker of Box 261, Juniata Gap, RD 4, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Edith Davis Eve Chapel at the Altoona Campus, by the Rev. Kermit O. Shrawder. Interment in Grandview Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata, and from noon until time of services Sunday in the chapel. If so desired, a donation can be made to the Jack Baker Memorial Fund at the Altoona Campus.
