WILLIAMSVILLE - Joyce Brooks, 67, of Williamsville passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She is survived by her spouse, Ray; a daughter, Diane (Kent) Thompson of Williamsville; three sisters, Helen Brian of Springfield, Debra (Bob) Rath of Williamsville and Rebecca (Tracy) Warden of Chanderville; four grandchildren, Katrina and Trevor Thompson of Williamsville and Sophie and Matt Brooks of Divernon; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a lifelong treasured friend, Linda Bileck.

Joyce was preceded in death by her son, David Brooks; two brothers, Johnny Orlove and Bobbie Scurlock; and her parents.

Mrs. Brooks was born October 24, 1941, in Waverly, the daughter of Woodrow Brian and Clara Evans Scurlock.

She married Ray Brooks on June 7, 1959, at the Williamsville Christian Church. Joyce was a graduate of Williamsville High School. She retired from St. John's Hospital after twenty-four years of service.

Joyce enjoyed camping, fishing, attending her grandson's basketball games and spending time with her family. She had a remarkable attitude and was a real joy to be around. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother that will be remembered for the wonderful impact she had on our lives.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens and where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. David Beals officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Williamsville Christian Church.
