Isaac was the last of 8 children (4 sons and 4 daughters) born of John Morgan (1700-1771) and his wife Sarah Cobb. Isaac's siblings were: John (b. 1729), Ruth (b. 1733), Phebe (b. 1736), Elkanah (1738-1764), Shapley (b. 1740), Thomas (b. 1742), and Eunice (b. 1744).

Isaac was a Privateersman during the American Revolution. He was engaged at "The Battle of Groton Heights" (Benedict Arnold's Attack upon New London, Connecticut), September 6, 1781, during which he was carried off by the British as a Prisoner.

Isaac married Elizabeth Allyn by whom he had 8 children: Daniel (b. 1776) and 7 other sons and/or daughters. He moved from Groton, New London County, Connecticut to Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont in 1784.
