Obit: Vern E. Canfield, Brewster. Vern E. Canfield, 79, a longtime resident of Okanogan County, died Tuesday, May 4, 1993, in the Okanogan Douglas County Hospital at Brewster.
He was born May 11, 1913, to Charles and Molly (Rasch) Canfield at Sisseton, S.D. He attended a country school at Sisseton through the eighth grade and lived on a farm until 1936, when he came to Washington on a freight train. He worked on a cattle ranch in the Chewiliken Valley.
He married Dorothy Alexander on Nov. 9, 1940, at Spokane. He worked from 1940 to 1953, selling used cars. He worked for Frank Figelinski selling Chrysler products until 1965, then sold cars for Stan Goehry at Brewster until he retired in 1976.
He attended the Community Log Church in Brewster, and was a member of Brewster Grange, the Senior Center of Brewster and the Elks Lodge of Omak. He had spent two years in the Civil Air Patrol.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, at the home in Brewster; four daughters, Jeanine Rench of Centrailia, Valerie Murray and Claudine Rescola, both of Omak, and Ronda Cameron of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; two brothers, Vincent Canfield of Coos Bay, Ore., and Robert Canfield of Rapid City, S.D.; two sisters, Rose Widner of Sumner and Mary Etta Pullice of Coos Bay, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
