SERVICES HELD TUESDAY FOR J. L. BRYAN

Funeral Services were held Tuesday morning, October 08, at the Spearman Methodist Church, for J. L. BRYAN, long time resident of this area who died Saturday evening. He was 81 years of age.

Rev. James E. Tidwell, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Perryton, conducted the final rites. Pallbearers were Marvin JONES, John HARDY, Ray PHELPS, John COLLARD, Jack McWHORTER, Gus McLAIN, Dr. Damon GREGG and Carter CRAWFORD.

Mr. BRYAN was born August 21, 1887 in Cooke County, Texas, and came to this country in 1911 from Dewey County, Oklahoma. He homesteaded land in Beaver County, making the trip by covered wagon, taking four days. He and Miss Maudie FINE were married December 26, 1909 at Taloga, Oklahoma.

He taught school for 25 years and farmed in Ochiltree and Hansford County. He retired from teaching in 1938, and the last school he taught in this county was at McMillen.

His family is now the third generation of school teachers. Mrs. Norman CRUM, his daughter, teaches in Perrton high school and his granddaughter Karen BURKHART, teaches in Vernon pubic schools.

Mr. BRYAN was a member and active worker in the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Maudie; three sons, Leland J. BRYAN of Tulsa; two daughters, Mrs. Nadine CRUM of Perryton and Mrs. Waneta ANGLIN of Perryton; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

The family has requested that memorials be to Boys Ranch or to the Ranger Loan Fund in Perryton.
