Neil's mother's complete name is "Elsie Emerson Hill McNeilly Truman."

Emerson is her middle name, as it was her father Eli's middle name, probably someone's maiden. Hill was Elsie's maiden name. McNeilly was her first husband, Neil's father Emmett Ernest "Mac" McNeilly. And she remarried to Truman late in life.

-------------------------

19-year-old Neil Keith McNeilly married Lorraine Mae Gerhardt on the 16th of June 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He died by age 21 only two years later on 5 May 1950 in San Diego, California. -- She may be the same woman on Find-a-Grave listed as Lorraine Mae Gerhardt Jenkins (26 April 1930 in Idaho - 4 November 2009 in Salt Lake City) who married Melvin Edward Jenkins, but it is unclear without seeing the marriage license to possibly first husband Neil Keith McNeilly more in full (to verify his bride Lorraine Mae Gerhardt's parents names & her birth place.) The LMG on this site lists parents: Lorenze Louis Gerhardt & Bessie Mae O'Donnell. Considering how young Neil & Lorraine McNeilly were when they married and then he died so quickly, it would be reasonable that that Lorraine got married again. But who knows what the shroud is about. I cannot find a cause of death for young Neil. And Lorraine Mae Gerhardt Jenkins' obit that is posted to this site does not mention any other husband than Melvin Jenkins; though the children listed on her obit/page and his (Melvin Jenskins) page do not match, even though they are listed as the soul married couple. -- At this point, without proof (even as likely as the coincidence looks) all that can be said is to perhaps note on the body of Neil Keith McNeilly's page without an official link that he married a Lorraine Mae Gerhardt in SLC June 16, 1948. That marriage is documented.

This is from contributor Jennifer Anderson:

The info listed on the page for Neil McNeilly connects him with Lorraine Mae Gerhardt Jenkins. That information is correct. They were married for about 2 years and had a set of fraternal twins - a boy and a girl (still living). The twins were about 15 months old when Neil died. According to an obituary in a Salt Lake newspaper (available to view on Family Search), he drowned in a riptide at a San Diego beach. Lorraine then married my father, Stephen Lance Walker. At the time, he was legally named Walter Hamlin Walker. He and Lorraine were living in Utah when my older half-sister (still living) was born. They were divorced about two years later. My father married my mother in 1955, and legally changed his name. I was born in 1956 in Utah. Meanwhile, Lorraine remarried Melvin Jenkins. They were married until he passed away in 1985.
