William H Smith was married to Vaslita Haynes. One of their daughters was Ella Mary Smith Givens, my husband's paternal great grandfather....After a lingering illness of some weeks, William Henry ("Brick") Smith died at his home in south Windsor last Thursday and was buried in Laurel Oak Cemetery July 13, the funeral services being in charge of Guthrie S Birkhead of the Christian church. He had united with the church at Columbus, in Johnson county, when a young man, but had been a member of the local church for a number of years. He was born in Tennessee July 3, 1826, it seems. The record was lost sometime ago and so the exact year is uncertain. He came to near IndependenceMO while a lad of five years and was reared near that place. About 1849 he was married to Miss Martha Reynolds, in Johnson county. Three children were born to this union: Benjamin Smith of KansasCity now surviving near Hazel Hill in Johnson county he married Vashtina Haynes, April 28, 1859. He was in the army during the CivilWar, serving under Capt. Duncan in a company made up mostly of Johnson county young men. He has lived in and near Windsor since 1869. He is survived by his wife, his son, and three daughters: Mrs Henry Sympson and Miss Bertha Smith of Windsor and Mrs Ella Givens of Deepwater.
"UncleBrick" as he had been known for many years, was one of the old-time citizens of Windsor and in his younger days was actively engaged in the building up of Windsor, being engaged in the brickmaking industry and in contracting, many of the business houses in Windsor being of his work and for generations to come a monument to his memory........rest in peace ....
