Wilson Irby Stegall was the second of nine children born to Jesse Clyde Stegall (1880-1959) and his wife Cleo Bessie Irby. Irby, as he was called, was married twice, first to Lillian Owens, and second to Louise Scrimshire. There were two children born of the first marriage and one of the second. Irby made his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and for a number of years worked as a jeweler and watchmaker there.
