HISTORY OF ELGIN COUNTY - by Hugh Joffe:
************************************
John built a hotel on the northeast corner in Talbotville, which was lost to fire just prior to 1853. He purchased a large dwelling and moved it across the road and established a post office in his hotel. Talbotville was an important transport center and Allworth's hotel and stagecoach depot were very busy. This was the favorite stopping place for Colonel Talbot when he was travelling; it was John Allworth who gave this little junction the name 'Talbotville' in honor of Colonel Talbot.
