METTER - Mr. Gordon Brooks "G.B" Williams, Sr., 88, died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital in Savannah after a brief illness. He was an Army veteran of World War II, earning the Purple Heart. The native of Bulloch Co. bought a farm and moved to Candler County many years ago. He was a member of Metter Primitive Baptist Church for over 30 years, was an avid outdoorsman and loved sports.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Barnes Williams of Metter; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Debra Williams of Statesboro; daughter, Ann Mercer of Savannah; two brothers, Dawin Williams of Register and Osborne Lee Williams of Statesboro; two sisters, Martha James of Kennesaw and Geraldine Deal of Statesboro; two grandsons and Granddaughter-in-law, Douglas Williams and Brooks and Melanie Williams; and one great-grandson, Zachary Williams.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Metter Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Sheldon Mikell and Elder Kurt Bacon officiating. Burial in the Lower Lotts Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Robert F. Williams, Hal Williams, Gilbert James, Danny Williams, Dexter Williams and James Manley.
