Joseph G. Campbell, 97, was born August 17, 1906, in Portland. He died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Norton Audubon Hospital. He was a professional boxer in Golden Gloves, having fought and won many fights. He was a member of the NRA and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a 50-year employee and superintendent at Kentucky Tent and Awning Company and the president of Louisville Tent and Awning for 11 years, having retired at age 75. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maude (Cottrell) Campbell. He is survived by his nieces, Evelyn Klusmeier, who cared for him until the very end, and Andrea Reed, and a neighbor and friend, Joyce Rogers, who also cared for him. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at J.B. Ratterman & Sons, Portland, 2114 W. Market St., with burial in Portland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday.
