Retired Haldex Brake employee Sammie Edward Campbell, 81, of Paris died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at his residence.

He was married on Sept. 7, 1977, to the former Janice C. Bailey, who survives.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Scotty Davis, pastor of West Paris Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Bevil Cemetery.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 11 a.m. Thursday.

Born in Paris on Jan. 2, 1928, he was a son of the late Elvis M. and Ora B. O'Daniel Campbell.

Campbell worked for Sunbeam Corp. in Chicago. He retired from Haldex Brake in 1989. He was a member of West Paris Baptist Church and a World War II veteran.

A family member said he enjoyed playing the guitar, painting portraits, gardening and spending time with his family and friends.

He leaves one daughter: Jeanene Marian (Scott) Spafford of Belvidere, IL; two sons: David Michael (Rose) Campbell of Belvidere and Darryl Edward (Denise) Campbell of Homer Glen, IL; one stepdaughter: Barbara Jo Allison of Paris; one stepson: Darrell Lynn (Loretta) Smith of Lyon, IL;

Two sisters: Earline Walker and Lucille (Robert "Bob") Kinney, both of Paris; one brother: J.B. (Marcy) Campbell of Henry; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers: J.D., Wesley and Floyd Campbell; a brother-in-law: Hampton Walker; and two sisters-in-law: Mary and Maybelle Campbell.
