Hymn Writer. Although she was blind from the age of six weeks, she wrote more than three thousand hymn lyrics, including "Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross", "Blessed Assurance" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."She was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1975.
She was born in Southeast, New York.
