Dorthy Lorene LINGLE was born 12 Jan 1913, in Morgan County, Indiana. She was one of four children and the only daughter of Crawford Claude and Dessie A. (ELLIS) LINGLE. Her brothers were: Otis M. 1906 – 1914, Verless V. 1908 – 1996 and James Francis LINGLE 1918 – 1925. Of the three of them, only Verless lived to adulthood.
Dorthy met her future husband, Edward Walter HAGAN at a roller skating rink when she was still a teenager. He asked if she would go out with him and she told him she would if her parents gave permission. They were married Mar 14, 1931 in Morgan County, Indiana. Dorthy was 18 and her husband was 26.
They moved to Bloomington, IN where Mr. HAGAN worked in the finishing room of the Showers furniture factory. In January of 1933, they had a son, Edward Junior HAGAN.
Dorothy died tragically on Sunday, May 28 1939 in a Memorial Day weekend boating accident on the White River, six miles southwest of Spencer. She was 26 at the time of her death. Her husband managed to swim ashore, but she and two others in the row boat were lost. She was buried in the Gosport cemetery.
