Pontiac (Livingston County)
My great, grand Aunt Edna on my father's side. She never married.
She lived in Chicago for many years and worked for the federal government. She visited us in downstate Illinois a lot. She was my grandmother's aunt, and they were only about 19 years apart in age. When she got ill, she moved to central Illinois, where we lived. She lived here until she passed away. She is buried next to her parents and her brother.
My aunt always wore nice dresses with stockings, shoes with high heels, and had her hair done up in a twist. She was a very dignified lady who wore lots of jewelry. She wore fancy earrings, rings, necklaces, and bracelets. I never saw her in anything else, until she was sick. She was kind and gentle and never said anything harsh to us kids, or anyone. She was a petite little lady.
We considered her our "city aunt," even though she was born and raised a few miles from our hometown.
Rest in peace Aunt Edna.
