Aunt Hazel and Uncle Earl were married January 1, 1913 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Greenough. They had two daughters, Lorraine and Mary Constance (Connie,) and one son, Burton. They lived in Saunemin their entire married lives.

My great Uncle Earl died when I was a baby. My Mom said he was tall and had red hair when he was young, just like her Mom did. My Mom's mother and Uncle Earl were brother and sister, the only children in the family. I heard he was a really nice man, who was very well thought of in our community.

He was a farmer, and president of the Saunemin High School Board of Education up until the time of his sudden death. I was told he was in the garden at their family farm home, when he suffered a heart attack and died there. Other relatives who lived down the road, rushed to the home, and he was already gone. They found his wife, Aunt Hazel, crying in the yard.

It was an especially hard blow, because my Mom lost her beloved uncle Earl on June 10, and then her paternal grandfather died that very next day, June 11, 1954. The 2 families had lived down the road from each other for many years.

May you rest in peace Uncle Earl.
