Son of John and Nancy Tindall (nee Jefferson) Hosea.

James first married Elizabeth L. Watts on 16 Oct 1851 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After she passed in 1857, he married Sarah J. (nee possibly Mathers). Sarah passed in 1862.

James married for the last time to Annie Elizabeth Hooper on 5 Nov 1863 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. One of the children born not listed here was James Warren Hosea, Jr. He was born 31 Jul 1864 in Philadelphia and died on 1 Nov 1922 in Kings County, New York. Many of his children died tragically. Only one, Theodosia, lived a long life.

James' occupation was that of selling fancy soaps in Philadelphia. Since his brother, Isaac Thomas Hosea, was well established in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri, James moved his family there in the latter 1860s. At that time, James was in the dry-goods and boots/shoes retailing business. He continued his successes after moving once again west into Hutchinson, Kansas in the latter 1870s where he established a general store.

from the 29 Jun 1893 edition of The Hutchinson News (Hutchinson, Kansas):
