Funeral services for Richard E. Sackett, 71, Grand Rapids, were Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1992, in Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Coleraine. The Rev. Paul Larson officiated. Burial took place in Itasca Cemetery, Grand Rapids. He died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1992, in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.
Born Jan. 4, 1921, in Coleraine, he graduated from Greenway High School in 1939. He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for U.S. Steel for 34 years, retiring in 1974. He worked as director of Public Works for Grand Rapids from 1974 until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grand Rapids, and was an avid outdoors person.
Surviving relatives include wife Eunice, Grand Rapids; daughter Wanda Ulseth, Grand Rapids; sons Richard L. and William R., both of Grand Rapids; brothers Warren, Seattle, Wash. Vernon, Grand Rapids, Wallace, Coleraine, and Allen, Banning, Calif.; sisters Patty Gould, Coleraine, Joan Evanoff, International Falls, Donna Massey, Rolano Heights, Calif., and Lois Litton, Paducah, Ky.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Libbey Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.
