Nathaniel Arthur "N.A." Hollingsworth
Birth: Mar. 4, 1910
Wayne County
Mississippi, USA
Death: Jan. 8, 1995
Wake County
North Carolina, USA

Married Luvada Ann Walker Saturday, July 17, 1937, in Laurel, MS (Jones County)

The 1910 Census show him as the 2-month old son of Aubry and Cotie Hollingsworth but misspelled Nathaniel as Thaniel.
My Daddy was not college educated nor did he graduate high school, but in many aspects, he was the most educated and adept man we have ever known. He was a father of two sons and two daughters and married to my mother (LuVada Ann Walker 17 July 1937) until her death at age fifty. He never remarried and did an admirable job of raising my younger sisters to decent and principled young women. My brother and I were grown when my mother passed and we had already left the family nest.
Having spent his life, which was devoted faithfully to the welfare of his family and providing a modest living by daily pounding it out with his hands, he departed this world at the age of eighty-five without ever accepting a handout from anyone, especially from any level of government. There were times when he needed financial help but always managed to find a way, as he would assert, to "make ends meet".
During WWII, he worked in the Pascagoula, Mississippi shipyards mostly assisting in the construction work of the wooden WWII PT boats. He did not qualify for military because of a bad leg at the time. He spoke many times of the beautiful deep reddish-brown Mahogany wood that he cut, shaped and installed into the boats. Later, when we grew older, he would build fishing boats out of cypress wood for us. The boats were designed to be used in the nearby Chickasawhey river that flowed through our sleepy Southern hometown - Waynesboro, Mississippi. All this, plus many more years of hands-on experience, led to him to become well known in his homeland as an excellent structural master carpenter. We are so very proud of him.
