When Frederick was 11 years old, the family arrived in the United States, in 1847, and found their way to Racine County, Wisconsin by 1850.
In 1856, at the age of 20, he married Louisa Eliza Boss, daughter of James and Dolly (Quackenbush) Boss of Burlington, Wisconsin. His brother, Charles Krakofsky (1838-1905), married Louisa's sister, Almira, five years later.
