Paul E. Slater, 91, of Montrose died at 9:22 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 9, 1914 in St. Marys, W.VA, he was the son of Daniel and Mabel Kern Slater. On July 3, 1935, he married Mildred Privia in Fort Madison.
They later divorced on Nov. 17, 1945, he married Ethel K. Miller in Marquette, Minn. She died March 6, 2006.
Mr. Slater worked for Anthes Forced Oiler and owned and operated Slater Marine. He also worked for Madson Cabinet Co. and was a commercial fisherman.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Montrose.
Survivors include a son, James Slater of Montrose, two daughters, Carol Tull of Donnellson and Linda Custer of Fort Madison; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Lacey of El Cerrito, CA; nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife,he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one brother and one sister.
The family willl meet friends from 2 to 3 Saturday at King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison. The funeral for Mr. Slater will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the King-Lynk Funeral Home, with Rev. Goldie Laymon Officiating. Burial will be in Montrose Cemetery.
